7 Pens I use every day – Analog Productivity at its best

Chris, February 2, 2024January 29, 2024

There is nothing quite like writing with a real pen in a real notebook.  Digital note taking and planning is core part of how I work to get things done and manage my focus.  But, there are plenty of times when only a note book and pen will do.  So here are 7 pens I use every day.

I tend to use a notebook and pen for things that are more reflective.  So, my morning devotional is written in a notebook, some initial brain storming for projects and goals goes in here.  A lot of reflecting on past events has been done in a notebook, etc.

The Workhorse Pens

I like to have a workhorse pen and so number 1 and 2 on my list fall into this category.

There has been a bit of change here.  I still like the Staedtler Tri-Plus Fineliner, but I am now using either PILOT V5 Hi-Tech point in black or the Papermate Inkjoy liquid 0.5 needle point, also in black.

These are the pens I use for most of my work or note taking if I am using a pen.

Fountain Pens

Now comes numbers 3, 4 & 5 on the list.  I use fountain pens for my morning devotions, journalling and reflection.  I like using a nicer pen for this.

I have fallen in love with Platinum pens.  I have a few Platinum Preppy pens, they are cheap to buy but write incredibly well.  I prefer the Extra fine nib, but fine or medium also write very well.  In addition to this, I have a Platinum Plasir.  It writes very similar to the Preppy but comes in a nicer pen.

Recently I purchased a Jinhao X159 for use at work.  It came with a converter so I bought some Waterman ink to use.  This pen is a bit chunky, but it writes nicely and I find it comfortable to use.

Multi-Colour Pens

For 6 & 7, we come to pens of many colours.  I’m cheating a little here.  I’m going with the entire Staedtler Tri-Plus range for number 6.  This includes the fineliners, the broadliners and their fibre tip pens.  These pens are fantastic and the colour range is impressive.  Truth is, individually they aren’t that expensive if you want to improve and expand your collection.

Then, number 7 goes to possibly my favourite pen of all time.  The Papermate Flair.  These pens are fantastic across the board.  Every other type of marker I have used, bleeds through in some way, or leaks.  Not the Papermate Flair.  Again the colour range is impressive.

So there are the 7 pens I use every day.  What about you?  What pens do you use?
