I love listening to podcasts. I listen when walking, when driving and travelling. I have subscribed to multiple podcasts over the last few years and I thought I would share with you my top 5 podcasts at the moment, that I am currently listening to. Then I’ll list a few ‘honourable’ mentions below. All of these should be available in your podcast app but I’ll provide links to the website for the podcast.
The top 5
The Working With Podcast – Carl Pullein (https://www.carlpullein.com/podcast)
Carl givesgeneral productivity and time management advice. His ethos is to keep things simple and straightforward. I love this podcast and it is my number one recommendation.
5 Minutes in Church History – Stephen Nicholls (https://www.ligonier.org/podcasts/5-minutes-in-church-history-with-stephen-nichols)
Now several hundred episodes strong, this podcast will give a great start in learning about the people, events and places that have shaped church history. Each episode is only 5 minutes long. I once tried listening with my kids whilst brushing their teeth! They were too young at the time but I will not give up this endeavour.
Knowing Faith – Kyle Worley, JT English & Jen Wilkin (https://www.trainingthechurch.com/knowingfaith)
This is a great podcast for getting deeper into theological thinking and the 3 hosts also banter a lot which makes it highly entertaining
The Deep Questions Podcast – Cal Newport (https://www.thedeeplife.com/listen/)
Cal believes that we have developed into a culture of distractions. We are distracted in life and distracted in work. Cal’s focus is therefore helping us come up with ways to engage in Deep Work, by which he means blocks of time where we can focus and be present without being distracted. This is helpful both in our work, but also in the rest of our lives as well.
Nonprofit Productive, the Podcast – Mike St. Pierre (https://www.nonprofitproductive.com/podcast)
I’ve only been listening to this for a few days and it’s still in its early days but so far it has been really helpful. Mike has a similar focus to me in terms of general advice and tips to help us move towards what he calls ‘calm productivity’. That is being able to get things done without the stress and anxiety that normally is associated with this.
Honourable Mentions
The Effective Faith Podcast – me (https://effectivefaith.org/ef-podcast/)
This is a shameless plug for my own podcast. If you haven’t listened already then please do check it out.
The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill – Christianity Today (https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/podcasts/rise-and-fall-of-mars-hill/)
This was a series that is now complete looking at Mars Hill church in Seattle and the story of how the church grew and then collapsed. It deals with tough issues relating to serving in environments that aren’t as healthy as they could be and the damage that can cause. I have found this helpful as I have processed some of my own experiences which, though not the same or on the same level, have a kind of resonance with some of the ideas discussed.
Redeeming Productivity – Reagan Rose (https://redeemingproductivity.com/series/the-redeeming-productivity-show/)
Interviews, insights, and practical advice on becoming a better steward of your life for the glory of God. Hosted by Reagan Rose. I’ve listened to a number of episodes of this podcast and they are always helpful. It would have made the top 5 but I wanted to include the podcasts I am listening to most at present.
