Living effectively, living Christianly

I prefer my intelligence to be real thank you very much!

Chris, June 2, 2024June 2, 2024

Did you know that you don’t need to WRITE blog posts anymore?  AI can do it for you.  That’s the promise.  All you need to do is write a brief summary of what you want to say, just a few bullet points, pump that into an AI chat bot and out comes a fully formed blog post that you can publish.  It’s such a timesaver!  Did you know that you don’t need to READ blog posts anymore?  AI can do it for you.  That’s the promise.  All you need to do is post an article or blog post into an AI chat bot and ask for a brief summary, just a few bullet points, and you can get all the important points without wasting time reading.  Do you see the irony in this example?  A person writes a summary post and AI writes the post.  The post is not read by the reader but AI reads it and then produces a summary.  Would have been quicker for the author to just post the summary they started with!  I prefer my intelligence to be real thank you very much!

Perhaps that was a silly example.  But hopefully it makes the point.

Why Real intelligence still matters

I totally understand the use of AI in so many different areas but I struggle with using AI in creative endeavours.  For this, I include writing and I do include planning as well.  I struggle with blog posts and articles written by AI.  I struggle with AI made plans for how I use my time.  Personally, I feel in these activities, human creativity, personal knowledge and things like emotional intelligence and empathy really are important.  I prefer my intelligence to be real thank you very much.

AI cannot develop a relationship with your audience.  If you are writing about areas that are sensitive or cover things that cause any kind of suffering, AI cannot have experienced this, it cannot empathise or sympathise.  AI cannot know how your week is going.  It cannot understand how circumstances and events affect your ability to be productive.  Therefore, when it comes to creativity and planning artificial intelligence will never be as capable as real intelligence.

I saw a headline today where the author was saying that they don’t want AI to be doing their writing and thinking.  They want AI to do the dishes and the laundry so that they can focus on the writing and the thinking.  I agree.  Creative work and thinking work are inevitably going to be your high impact work.  Why delegate this to AI so you are left with the lower impact mundane tasks?

I prefer my intelligence to be real thank you very much!
